I bought rice and tried to grow it the way they said on youtube , it started to grow but died because it requires constant irrigation and nutrient's, my goal was to tie this into a hydroponic system and the book just helped me to do it indirectly, because the concept is the same weather you grow it in mud or hydroponically, irrigation of water is the key. thanksProduct details

Rice Farming Complete with Methods to Increase Rice Crop Yield (Audible Audio Edition) Julian Bradbrook Millian Quinteros Books Reviews
I have wanted to grow my own rice and now, with the help of this book, I can. Very easy read and very helpful.
Holistic, but could use some citations. Don't expect too much with the formatting and professional appearance. Using it as a crash course in farming.
I got this book because I was recently tasked to oversee a rice farm. This book contains enough information to get me updated on the topic. The content is quite basic.
This is an interesting book that definitely scratched that "itch to know". I've always wanted to understand where and how rice was raised, and this book answered those questions and much more besides!
Interesting and thorough.
This might be a five star book to a rice farmer, particularly a small rice farmer in a relatively poor area of the world. It does give a lot of practical and informative information about the farming of rice. For me, it was like reading a master's thesis on rice farming. You see, I have a potato farmer in the family who has grown mostly for potato chip manufacturing (which, I understand, is an even more rigorous process than growing potatoes for regular food consumption). However, we eat a lot of rice around my home, brown rice in particular. As we've been focusing more on what we eat, the question arose about how some of what we eat so much of is farmed. We know a lot about potato farming, and almost nothing about rice farming. I am a fan of the author, so when I saw that he had a book on rice farming, I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to learn a bit more.
For one, even though I eat brown rice a lot, I did not know what made the brown rice into brown rice. I grew up with white rice, or "normal rice" to my family. I knew it was higher in nutrients and plant fat. The simple fact that it is husked but not polished, so it still has the bran layer intact. Suddenly it seems odd to me that as much brown rice as I eat, that I did not know that.
I have taken to reading short books when I want to find out more than I run into on Wikipedia. As often as not, it's almost a matter of serendipity when I run into something like this - a topic that interests me, but I would not have thought to go out of my way to find it. I really did read the whole book. I have a measure a sympathy for the small asian farmers who are trying to make due with pre-60s tech and doing it the best they can. As I learned a great deal about potato farming from family in the business, I have now learned a great deal about rice farming. It's not a staple my family can farm due to locale, but I understand it a lot better, and I see the issues coming toward us in the future.
Incidentally, I was also comforted by learning the genetically modified rice has not yet been approved. Assuming that to still be true and given how much controversy seems to surround genetically modified foods, I do hope that doesn't happen unless and until a LOT of studies prove it really is safe.
If you farm rice, or if you are connected to someone who farms rice, this might be an excellent manual. I could not speak to that or I would probably give the book five stars! Just as a resource for a bit-time rice-consumer, I feel safe giving the book four stars for the illumination it has provided for me in one of the most common foods in my diet.
I read this Book because Rice is the primary food for half the people in the world, and I knew nothing about Rice.
That statement "I knew nothing about Rice" is no longer true ...
I now know quite a bit about rice thanks to Julian Bradbrook's
remarkable book " Rice Farming complete with methods to increase rice crop yield'
This book was written by a man totally invested in rice as a major factor in the quality of life for the people of the world.
The Author gives us historic, political and socio-econormic context. The book makes the case that everyone
should know a little something about this topic because of importance Rice plays in every aspect of life on planet earth.
From how to build a rice paddy, to germination, planting, crop management and ripening of the rice, continuing
to site specific nutrient management and environmental concerns this book is the most complete discussion of rice
I've ever witnessed. It takes Julian Bradbrook's high level of knowledge to understand how important rice is to the world,
the least the rest of us can do is follow his lead and read this book .... you'll never take rice for granted again.
